Conference 2013 - Still life with Fruit

The 8th Annual Art Teachers' Conference came to end on Saturday 21st of September. The conference was a great success. We sat 155 people for lunch on Saturday afternoon. It was a fantastic turnout, a little more than we had anticipated. It's great to see so many Art Teachers supporting the Association. I have to acknowledge all the hard work put in by our National Committee, Cork Branch and all the teachers that gave a hand on the day.

A very sad day for Art Education in Ireland.

It is with great regret that we must share the sad news of the death of Dr Kieran Meaghar, Course Leader, Art and Design Education, Limerick School of Art and Design. A leading figure in Art Education in Ireland, his influence will long live on in our art rooms across the country. We extend our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace.

ATAI Leaving Cert Art Syllabus Change Campaign

This week the ATAI began a campaign to bring the issue of our extremely outdated Leaving Cert Art syllabus to the attention of Minister Ruairi Quinn. At our last National meeting at Collins Barracks in May it was decided that a letter should be written to our Minister for Education, outlining some of the main concerns that teachers have in relation to the aged syllabus. We hope that every Art teacher who shares this sentiment will support this campaign for change by signing and posting the letter to Minister Ruairi Quinn.
