Study Day for Leaving Certificate Art Students

Thursday 19th 10.00am – 1.00pm January

This session is a revision tool for Leaving Certificate students and teachers using visual examples from the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland. Topics covered include; The Renaissance, Impressionism to Abstraction and Modern Irish Art 1890 – 1960. Make time to view the Bronze Age exhibition ‘Roscommon Gold’.

Young Adults 15 – 18 years

Learn how to create life-size figures from paper and wire. Make characters from the past inspired by the Museum exhibits. Ideal for students preparing an art portfolio or interested in art. Limited spaces available. Participants must attend five days.

THE ARTS IN OUR SCHOOLS

On Friday 21 October, at the NAPD Conference, in Killarney, there will be a workshop on the Arts in our Schools, led by Pat Kinsella, Principal of Coláiste Choilm and his colleagues, Áine Andrews and Tim Burke. They will be joined by Brendan Flynn, who has been at the helm of the Clifden Community Arts Week for as long as it has existed, Paddy O’Conor, who master-minded a brilliant arts project in Castletownbere a few years ago, Jane O’Hanlon, Education Officer of Poetry Ireland, and other luminaries.

Art History and Appreciation

In March 2012 we will run a series of evening events which will focus on strategies and approaches that Art teachers find useful in approaching the teaching of Section 1 (Irish Art) at Senior Cycle. They will address many areas of the curriculum and provide an opportunity to share ideas and experiences. Come along with any ideas, approaches that work for you!
