Cork Branch

The first Cork Branch social evening of 2012 was a huge success!

Contemporary Irish Artist Aideen Barry gave us a wonderful talk on her work practice in the beautiful Library in the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork on February 3rd.

Truly an inspiration, Aideen's determination holds no bounds! Nothing holds this lady back when it comes to seeing her imagination come to life! She even went so far as to spend 3 months training at NASA to finally fly into zero gravity to film her "Vacuuming in a Vacuum", a piece the Cork branch recently saw exhibited at the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork.

Two points that Aideen stressed were; the importance of imagination and that of drawing. If these are two things that we could instill in our students, perhaps we could have the next Aideen Barry sitting in our very own Art rooms!

Following Aideen's talk, we had dinner in Luigi Malone's. Dinner was a beautiful 2 course meal and was subsidised by the ATAI, costing members only 15euro. It was a great opportunity to meet and talk to other like-minded Art Teachers!

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS 2012

Over the next couple of months we plan to host a wide range of workshops, including Calligraphy, Batik, Bookbinding and Puppet Making. Details below.

We will also again be hosting a series of life drawing sessions for Teachers. These sessions were a great success last term. We are starting them back up again in the same venue, thanks to the CIT Art Therapy Department for allowing us to use there studios in the old FAS building on Sullivan's Quay, first floor. These sessions are open to all teachers not only ATAI members as they are part funded by the TPN. We are trying Monday evenings this time around, 18:30 to 21:00. We will have a new model this time too as Audrey has other commitments this term. Sessions will again cost;
