“A portrait sculpture demonstration with contemporary sculptor, Liz O’Kane.

Working from a model of a human head, participants will observe and create a small scale clay head portrait. Based on this session you should be able to teach your students how to make a sculpture head.”

Note from Artist;

If you each bring a glass bottle full of water you could each make a small scale head around the top of it. Also bring plastic bags or cling film to wrap around the clay head after if you want to keep them to keep the clay air tight. A good idea to stand the bottle on a wooden base of maybe 40 x 40 cm to prevent clay falling to the ground or making a mess. I have attached a sketch of the armature stands I make up. Often I wrap thin wire around the top of the armature for the clay to have something to hold on to.

Bring whatever sculpture tools you have also. My usual portrait sculpture classes are run over a 10 week course on monday nights, 6-9pm.

The bulk of the info is delivered in the first session, so this will be perfect for a 3 hour demonstration for you. Normally I employ a live model for portrait head class, in your case I will bring a head sculpture to work from.

Based on this session you should be able to teach your students how to make a sculpture head.
