The Art Teachers Association

Welcome to the Art Teachers Association

The Association of Art Teachers is one of the longest established Subject Associations in Ireland

It was set up in 1950 by Patrick Heney. It is run on a voluntary basis by and for qualified Art Teachers.

We are the formal voice of Art Teachers in Ireland, and have representatives on various educational committees – NCCA , SARG, InSEA.

What does the ATAI do?

The ATAI works on a Regional structure. All of the regional groups are affiliated to the National Organisation. The association provides collegiality, support and a forum for discussion and for the exchange of information.

The Association helps organise relevant Continuing Professional Development and workshops for our members, in association with the Second Level Support Services and Third Level institutions such as NCAD, Crawford College of Art and Limerick School of Art & Design .

We also have regular meetings with the Department of Education & Science Inspectorate and with the State Examinations Commission.

National meetings are held in Dublin, three times during the year which are informative and helpful. The AGM is held in October. The meetings are held in either IMMA, Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin 8 or in Collins Barracks, Dublin. These are open to all members of ATAI. The Regional Liaison officers bring issues to the attention of the National Committee and report back to their local group.

These meetings are open to all members of ATAI. Those wishing to attend who are not members may join on the day of the meeting. Each region has a Representative who bring Regional issues / news to the attention of the National Committee and report to their Region in the form of a Regional Report, and reports back to Regions.
